NoveList Workshops

Duncan Smith inspires Michigan librarians with readers' advisory workshops

Duncan Smith, librarian and creator of NoveList (one of our MeL Databases) provided free training in Michigan in November.  In five days, he visited nine library sites and videoconferenced to three sites in the Upper Peninsula.

Duncan's message is inspiring:  readers are important to libraries and libraries are important to readers.  He discussed "best practice" for providing reader's advisory, showed clips of readers talking about books, and then demonstrated how to use the MeL Database NoveList to expand librarians' and readers' knowledge of what is the next "best book to read."

His program will be made available via videostreaming, so watch MLC's website for more information. We are also hoping that he will be able to return to Michigan for other sessions, perhaps at 2010 library conferences.

Thank you, Duncan, and thanks to EBSCO for sending him to our state to share his expertise.
