MeL Users Day 2009
Pecha Kucha to be featured at the 5th Annual MeL Users Day on April 13
Online registration is now available for the Fifth Annual MeL Users Day 2009. This year, in addition to the usual break-out sessions, we are introducing a new segment of Pecha Kucha (pronounced 'peh-CHAK-cha') presentations.
Pecha Kucha (also known as "w00tslam" or "lightning round") is a presentation format in which work can be easily and informally shown. The name derives from a Japanese term for the sound of conversation ("chit-chat"). Originated by Astrid Klein and Mark Dytham of Klein-Dytham Architecture in Tokyo as a place for young designers to meet, network, and show their work in public, the format has spread to many cities across the world.
The idea behind Pecha Kucha is to keep presentations concise, the interest level up, and to have many presenters sharing their ideas within the course of one session. With those goals in mind, the 20x20 Pecha Kucha format was created: each presenter is allowed a slideshow of 20 images, each shown for 20 seconds. This results in a total presentation time of 6 minutes 40 seconds before the next presenter is up. Pecha Kucha started in the design and architecture worlds, but recently it has also stretched over to academia and the business world. [Information adapted from sources:
