Update

MeL Databases Changes in August

Reminder of changes previously announced:

1.  As of August 1, 2010, WilsonSelectPlus will no longer be on the FirstSearch platform.  The database will now be called OmniSelect Plus and will be on the WilsonWeb platform.  We are not losing any content!!!  This is the same database that we have had for years; it will just be on a different interface.  If you use mel.org to access that database, you do not need to do a thing.  Everything is being handled for you.

If you have a separate link on your website for WilsonSelectPlus, you will need to change the database name and the URL on August 1.  The new URL will be:

http://vnweb.hwwilsonweb.com/hww/jumpstart.jhtml

IF YOU SUBSCRIBE TO ANY WILSON DATABASES, H. W. Wilson staff and MCLS staff should have already contacted you about these changes and your options.

If you have questions, please send your email to MeL Databases Help

2.  NetLibrary is no longer owned by OCLC.  It was purchased by EBSCO.  This is a seamless, invisible transition for libraries.  You do not need to do anything!!!

3.  Gale is changing two of our MeL databases on Thursday, August 12, 2010.

First, Books & Authors is replacing the old What Do I Read Next?  Books & Authors is designed to catch the eye of the end user by having a format similar to online book-selling sites.  It is colorful and interactive with many appealing features.  If you access the databases from mel.org, you do not need to do anything.

If you have a link to What Do I Read Next? on your website, you will need to change the database name and URL.  The new URL will be:

http://infotrac.galegroup.com/itweb/(Location ID)?db=BNA   (You will need to insert your Gale location ID without using any parentheses.)

The old database and URL will be active until Sept. 15 to give you time to make the change.

Second, InfoTrac Custom Newspapers will be replaced by InfoTrac Newstand.  InfoTrac Newsstand provides access to more than 1,000 major U.S. regional, national and local newspapers as well as leading titles from around the world.   The search interface will give users new options and features.  If you access the databases from mel.org, you do not need to do anything.

If you have a link to InfoTrac Custom Newspaper on your website, you will need to change the database name and URL.  The new URL will be:

http://infotrac.galegroup.com/itweb/(Location ID)?db=STND  (You will need to insert your Gale location ID without using any parentheses.)

The old database and URL will be active until Sept. 15 to give you time to make the change.
