MLC Annual Meeting 2007

"Libraries Build Communities" featured at MLC Annual Meeting on Oct. 5

Librarians all over the country are building communities, both online and off. A little more than a year ago, Chrystie Hill and Steven Cohen began research for their upcoming book on building library communities. For the past year, they've interviewed and surveyed librarians to uncover the hundreds of ways libraries are working to build communities. The goal of their book, tentatively titled "Inside, Outside, and Online," is to spur a community building outlook through which we can push everything we do in libraries.

As the keynote speaker at this year’s MLC Annual Meeting, Chrystie Hill will tell us about her year of researching, interviewing and scouring the library world for insights into how library staff can, and do, community building work. Following Chrystie’s presentation, a panel of Michigan librarians (Melissa Barnard, George Bishop, and Victor Liu) will tell about their libraries’ experiences with community building.

In the afternoon session, MLC staff will share some of what MLC is doing to build communities among libraries, followed by the MLC annual meeting.
